I've Learned To Love To Read

On December 2nd 1998 I was awarded one of the few things I have won in my life. It was the Hawthorne Book Fair Essay Contest. I got first place and won a book of my choice. I was in second grade and I wrote a 50 word "essay" about why reading is important. Here is my winning entry :)

Reading is important because when you know how to read, you can learn many things. Anything you want to learn, you can read about in a book and find out how to do it. Reading makes you smart!
I love to read. If you learn to read, you will like it too!

Somewhere between second grade and now my love of reading has faded. Not lost, just faded. I still liked to read a good book on occasion, but I often found myself using my time for other activities.

Recently I have found myself with a lot of extra time on my hands. One day out of boredom I decided to pick up a book. I found the love of reading that I had forgotten. I echo what I wrote in second grade. I love to read. If you learn to read, you will like it too! (Explanation point included:)
