I feel passionate about marriages and families. All my life I considered what I would do when I grew up. I had dreams of interior design, educating children, and even professional cheerleading. Never had I considered making my ultimate goal to become a mother also a part of my college education. When I found the Marriage and Families Emphasis major in the School of Family Life, all my doubts and questions about what I wanted to do disappeared because I knew I wanted to be involved in building the family unit. My studies in classes since that time have become some of the most meaningful things I have learned. My love for family life has increased beyond what I could have ever imagined. I love learning about this beautiful subject and want to incorporate it into my life so that I can help others.
The flourishing families’ project really intrigues me because not only would I be able to study families, which I love to do, but I would be able to focus primarily on the positive interactions in family life. I feel like too often negative aspects of family life are studied and sometimes those statistics can be discouraging. I truly believe marriages and families can succeed and that the highest happiness can be discovered in this unit. I desire to bring that principle to light as families struggle through the hard times that accompany family life. If the world can see the beauty of the family, even the blessing of the family, I believe more families will stick through the tough times and make their relationships in the family a higher priority in life.
